Gieg Snaps the streak PDF Print E-mail

July 6th, 2013 - Jeff Gieg picked up his 2nd win on the season and snaps the streak of 5 different winners in the first 5 weeks. 16 Lightning Sprints pulled in to the gates as part of an incredible 142 cars total at I-76 Speedway. BST Promotions and I-76 Speedweay put on an impressive show as the 3rd and final leg of The Independence Day Challenge Cup was held. It was a hot and humid day and with all those cars Butch was able to prepare an awesome track.

Heat Race #1 – TJ Worcester, Sammy Gallo, Glenn Waterland, Scott Heikes, Matt Martinez, Jesse Fernandez, Rick Marchbank, Chris Crowder DNF.

Heat Race #2 – Jeff Gieg, Troy Simpson, Bob Harr, Paul Babich, Auston Pribbenow, Scott Wilson, Steve Becker, Troy Ullery DNF.

After a long night with a ton of races the main event lined up just as the heats finished as TJ Worcester drew a 0 for the inversion placing him on the pole and Gieg on the outside. A torrid start Worcester jumped to the lead with Gieg hot on his bumper. A caution for a spin by Fernandez in turn 2 slowed the field. On the insuing restart Babich spun in turn 2 as well. Another restart and Worcesters’ car stumbled and Geig got a great start and after another late caution as Martinez and Heikes got together Gieg was never challenged. Complete results will be posted as soon as they are available.
